Visa: the familiar deposit and the details that come later

A Visa card is the first thing most players reach for at a cashier, and the payment itself is as plain as any online purchase. The details that matter come afterwards: whether the card can receive a payout, whether the deposit qualifies for the promotion you have in mind, and what happens if you change your mind about the bonus. The set of methods and the limits depend on your account — check the cashier. We do not state that Visa is available for your account at Irwin.

Card deposit, step by step

  1. If you plan to take a bonus, read its terms first: qualifying deposit and excluded methods.
  2. In the cashier choose Visa and enter the amount.
  3. Activate the bonus or enter the code before you pay.
  4. Type the card details on the payment page and approve the charge in your banking app.
  5. Check the balance and the bonus section.

Payouts after a card deposit

Many cashiers return a payout to the card up to the amount you deposited with it and send the rest to a bank account in your name. If a bonus is active, finish the turnover first — a withdrawal request before that often cancels the bonus. Verification usually means a passport or national ID and sometimes a photo of the card with the middle digits covered. Details: withdrawal guide.

Example: a card deposit made for a bonus

The terms say: qualifying deposit €20, wagering 30 times the bonus, max bet €5 per spin (illustrative example, not an Irwin term). You deposit €50, receive €50 in bonus funds and owe €1,500 in turnover. An hour later you are €30 up and would like to cash out — but the request would most likely void the bonus and the €30 with it. Decide before activation what matters more to you: the extra balance or the freedom to withdraw. The arithmetic of turnover is broken down in our wagering guide.

Keeping card spending in check

Card payments are so frictionless that it is easy to deposit more than you meant to. Set a deposit limit in the casino account and, if you like, an online-payment limit in your banking app — the first caps one site, the second caps all of them. If play stops being fun, read our responsible gambling page.

Visa FAQ

Can winnings be paid back to a Visa card?
Sometimes. It depends on the operator and on the bank that issued the card. When card payouts are not possible, the money usually goes to a bank account in your name. The set of methods and the limits depend on your account — check the cashier.
Why did my bank decline the card payment?
Common reasons are card limits for online payments, a bank policy on gambling transactions or a failed 3-D Secure confirmation. Your bank can tell you which one applied; the casino cannot override it.
Should I use a credit card?
A credit card payment may technically go through, but gambling with borrowed money is a bad idea. A debit card with its own spending limit gives you more control.
