Table games and bonus wagering
Blackjack, roulette, baccarat and poker-style table games have something in common from a bonus point of view: they usually return more to the player than slots do. That is good news when you play with your own money and a complication when you play with bonus money, because operators offset it with lower weighting, outright exclusions and rules about how bets are counted. Here is how to read those rules before you sit down at a virtual table.
How table games typically appear in the terms
| Game family | What the terms often say | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Blackjack | Low weighting or excluded | Whether side bets count differently |
| Roulette | Low weighting; some bet patterns banned | Rules on covering the layout or both colours |
| Baccarat | Low weighting or excluded | Whether tie bets count |
| Casino poker variants | Varies widely | Weighting of ante versus bonus bets |
Settled bets, pushes and refunds
A common clause says only bets that are settled as a win or a loss count toward wagering. A push in blackjack, a tie in baccarat that returns the stake, or a round cancelled because of a technical issue may add nothing. Over a long session that can make a real difference to progress. If you rely on table games for part of your wagering, keep an eye on the progress bar after each session rather than assuming every bet counted.
Worked example: the cost of low weighting
A €40 bonus with 30x wagering on the bonus needs €1,200 of qualifying bets. If blackjack counts at 10%, you need €12,000 of blackjack bets; at 5%, €24,000 (illustrative example, not an Irwin term). Even with a low house edge, the expected loss on €12,000 of turnover can exceed the €40 bonus. For most table-game players, the honest conclusion is that a deposit bonus works against them.
Max bet and strategy changes
The maximum bet rule applies to table games too. Doubling down or splitting in blackjack can push the total stake on a hand above the limit, and some terms count the combined stake. If you play with an active bonus, keep the base bet low enough that a double or split stays within the cap.
What a table-game player can do instead
Play with real money and keep full freedom to withdraw; look for cashback paid as real money; or clear any bonus on slots first and switch to tables only afterwards. Live versions of these games follow similar logic — see live casino. Whatever you choose, the general rules behind every offer are explained in our bonus terms guide.
