Welcome bonus: the percentage is only the start

The welcome bonus is the first thing a new player sees and usually the biggest offer on the site, which is exactly why it is easy to overrate. The match percentage and cap tell you how much will be credited; they say nothing about how much you have to bet before you can take it out. Here is how to take the offer apart and decide whether it suits the way you play. Irwin's current figures are in the promotion terms — the operator changes them itself.

What the offer is made of

ElementTypical wordingWhat it means for you
Match percentage"100% on your first deposit"The bonus equals your deposit, up to the cap
Cap"up to €150"Depositing above the cap adds no extra bonus
Qualifying deposit"minimum €15"A smaller deposit is credited without a bonus
Wagering"35x the bonus"The turnover in euros — the number that matters
Deadline"within 21 days"The pace of play needed to finish

Wording in the table is an illustrative example, not an Irwin term.

Two deposits, two very different bills

Take 100% up to €150 with 35x the bonus. A €25 deposit brings €25 of bonus and €875 of turnover. A €150 deposit brings €150 of bonus and €5,250 of turnover (illustrative example, not an Irwin term). On slots that return around 96%, the expected cost of the larger turnover is about €210 — more than the bonus itself. Maxing out the deposit to grab the full bonus pays off less often than it seems.

When a welcome bonus makes sense

When declining is smarter

If you prefer table games or the live casino, their contribution to wagering is often low, and the bonus simply locks your deposit. The same goes if you want to try a withdrawal on a small sum first: a payout request while the bonus is active usually cancels it. In those cases it is simpler to play with your own money and look at cashback if it is paid without a playthrough.

Claiming a welcome bonus without mistakes

Register in your own name and complete ID verification early. In the cashier, choose a method that is not excluded from the promotion, deposit at least the qualifying amount, and make sure the box is ticked or the code entered before paying. Once the money lands, open the bonus area and confirm that the turnover and deadline match the terms. Method-by-method notes are on the how to deposit page.

Welcome bonus questions

Do I have to take the welcome bonus?
No. If you mainly play live or table games, like to stake big, or want to test a withdrawal on a small amount, a bonus is more likely to get in the way. You can untick 'accept bonus' before your first deposit.
What is a multi-deposit welcome package?
Several bonuses attached to your first few deposits in a row. Each part can have its own percentage, qualifying minimum and deadline. Work out the turnover for each part separately, and never make the next deposit just to keep the package going.
Why wasn't my welcome bonus credited?
Typical reasons: the deposit was below the qualifying minimum, the payment method was excluded, a required code was not entered or the box was unticked. Check the terms first, then contact the operator's support with the transaction reference.
